All other Beef Tallow offerings by Essential Depot are intended for skin care products as those do not contain these custom engineered additives.

• Grass-Fed or non Grass-Fed (consider Essential Depot's R.E.D. non Grass-Fed Beef Tallow)
• Grass-Fed provides more of the valuable nutrients but with less stability and more foaming than R.E.D. non Grass-Fed during the making process
• R.E.D. non Grass-Fed, however, provides more stability and less foam during the making process

Let's explain:   This is about foam during the making process, not lather.


In soaping, foam during the making process can often become a major challenge. The defoaming agent in the R.E.D. Beef Tallow effectively controls and reduces the foam produced by beef tallow. Foam forms when gas is trapped in a liquid creating bubbles. Those bubbles can disrupt soaping process. The defoaming agent reduces the surface tension of the liquid which weakens and breaks the thin film around the trapped gas (the bubble). This causes the bubble to collapse and thereby reduces foam. Hence, a defoaming agent plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth operations and efficiency. Essential Depot's R.E.D. use of Dimethylpolysiloxane is revolutionary. Dimethylpolysiloxane is a silicone based defoamer. That is important as silicone based defoamers offer good resistance to heat and cold, are highly safe, and chemically inert.


In soaping, Citric Acid performs multiple functions including but not limited to: pH balancer, stabilizer, preservative, and ameliorate hard water. This Citric Acid is too minute for a re-calculation of your recipe. Essential Depot has undertaken soap experimentation with positive results and will have a written report sometime this Summer 2025.

If this is a problem, please do not order between May 01 - October 31. This product may not be solid at room temperature. If you require a product that is solid at room temperature then you should order the more expensive tallow rendered only from the kidney fat of the cattle.

Keep cool and refrigerate after opening. Use within 3 months of opening.

*Rendered tallow is known to be low risk with respect to BSE, as the BSE agent, a prion, is protein based and neither does it reside in the fat nor is it soluble. Due to the high level of processing and filtration it is extremely unlikely to present any risk of contamination.
