A graceful tree about 25 meters high, which has a pyramidal shape while young. It has bright green leaves and a dark reddish-brown aromatic bark. The bark is broken into plates or patches. Native to southern Canada and southeastern USA; it now also grows in Russia and parts of Eastern Europe. Derived from the resin it is not technically an essential oil.

ODOR/AROMA: a strong top note, sweet, sharp, camphoraceous scent that is very fresh and similar to Wintergreen (smells like root beer)

COMMON USES: Widely used in hair treatments/shampoos. Used in bath water and massage oils to promote relaxation and to help aching muscles.
CAUTIONS: For external use only. May cause skin irritation in some individuals. A skin test is recommended prior to use, dilute prior to use. Contact with eyes should be avoided.
STORAGE: It is recommended that oils be packaged in colored glass or metal containers to protect the oil from air/light/moisture, keep it fresh, maintain the maximum shelf life, and for safe shipping.
